Add iOS devices and Mac computers manually

After you add users to Profile Manager, add their devices to Profile Manager.

Placeholder device records are optional if you let users enable device management on their own using the user portal, or if you enable enrollment profiles to be used on unknown devices.

  1. In the Profile Manager sidebar, select Devices.

  2. Click Add add button, and then choose Add Placeholder from the pop-up menu.

  3. Choose iOS/OS X from the Device Type pop-up menu.

  4. Enter a name for this device.

  5. Choose an identifier from the pop-up menu, and then enter the relevant information (at least one of these is required):

    • Serial Number

    • UDID

    • IMEI (for iOS devices with a cellular connection)

    • MEID (for iOS devices with a cellular connection)

    You can find these identifiers for iOS devices in Settings > General > About, and in iTunes when the device is connected. On a Mac, choose Apple menu > About This Mac.

  6. Click Add to register the device.

    When the user connects to the Profile Manager using this device, the user’s default configuration profile is installed, as well as configuration profiles you assigned to this device or its groups. Information about the device, such as installed apps, is also recorded.
